Rework of Complex Components
AVLE Soldering License Module 4:
The fourth module of the training as a Specialist for Soldering Technology in accordance with guideline AVLE1510 teaches the special knowledge for reworking complex SMT components on electronic assemblies using rework systems. Participants learn how to specifically desolder defective components and then re-solder a new component in the same place on the circuit board. The focus of these mechanized processes is on the control of the temperature profile on the component to be replaced during desoldering and soldering and the thermal load on components in directly adjacent areas.
Knowledge imparted in module 4:
- Mechanized processing of components that can no longer be adequately soldered by hand
- Rework basics, process management using professional rework systems
- Temperature profiles in the rework process, differences to the reflow machine process
- Typical preparations and problems in the rework process
- Temperature measurement during rework, process evaluation
- Moisture sensitivity of assemblies and components
- PCB properties, expansion and distortion, PCB support
- Overview of SMT rework systems, technologies, placement systems
- Basic function of rework and placement systems
- Use of flux in rework, application options, removal
- Use of solder pastes during rework, application options
- Residual solder removal
- Protection of sensitive neighboring components
- Component knowledge, acceptance criteria
- Practical demonstration of the most important processes on a professional rework system
- Soldering and desoldering of BGA, QFN, QFP etc. on training assemblies and real assemblies
- Dip and print processes for rework
Training duration:
- Two days (18 teaching units, including exam)
Includes:
- Printed personal training documents
- Examination documents
- AVLE qualification certificate module 4 after passing the final theory exam
- AVLE Soldering License or entry of the completed module
Entry requirements:
- Successful completion of modules 1 + 2 is recommended for module 4.
- Practical experience in the field of reworking SMT components on electronic assemblies is advantageous.
- Alternatively: CIS/CIT IPC-7711/IPC-7721 or like module 3
Important notes:
Lateral entrants can take the examination for module 4, but module 4 does not cover the complete theoretical examination material, which also includes some of the important basic knowledge from modules 1 + 2.
In your own interest, we recommend that you have your eyesight tested before starting the course.
Recertification
- The validity of the AVLE qualification certificates in modules 1–4 is three years from the date of the examination.
- An extension of a further three years can be achieved by joint recertification.
- The recertification examination must be completed no later than 90 days after the expiration date, otherwise the qualification certificates expire and must be reacquired.
